January is National Bath Safety Month

Every year, thousands of people are treated in Emergency Rooms for accidents involving baths. January has been designated as National Bath Safety Month. Rane Bathing and Accessibility wants to use this time to help you stop and think how you can make bath time safer for everyone in your family. Baths should be relaxing and enjoyable. There are some important precautions you can take to keep it that way and greatly reduce the risks of slips, trips and falls in your bathing area. January is one of the most popular times to get your home in order. Check your bathroom against this safety list:

  • Non-Slip Mats- install a sticky water-proof mat in your tub as will as a non-slip mat outside your tub so when you step out, your wet feet don’t slip out from underneath.
  • Never leave small children, the elderly or those with significant mobility issues unattended while bathing.
  • Keep the bathroom floor clean and uncluttered to avoid slips, trips or falls.
  • Avoid spraying slippery air freshener on tile or smooth surfaces. It takes longer to dry than you think and the oily mist can create a fall hazard.
  • Think twice about using bath oils in your tub which can also be an accident in the making.
  • Water temperature should be kept at or about 120 degrees to prevent skin burns. (Check out Rane’s anti-scald mixing valves which prevent accidental burns).
  • Install Bath Grips in the bath area to give bathers something sturdy to hold on to while showering, entering and exiting the tub.

Consider installing one of Rane’s Walk-in Tubs which is completely designed around Bath Safety. In fact, Rane was a pioneer in the Walk-in Tub field for healthcare settings. Thirty years of experience in designing safe accessible bathing solutions for health care facilities now goes into the design of their residential Walk-in Tubs. Not only will your bathroom take on a whole new upscale resort look, you can be sure it has all the safest features for bathing available. They offer models with wide walk-in doors that ensure no leaks with their trademark KeyLock™ mechanism. The ergonomic contoured seating was designed with input from therapists and other healthcare professionals to create a safe comfortable way for those with any degree of mobility challenge to have a way to relax and enjoy a luxurious bath. Rane Tubs are also designed to prevent back injuries to caregivers which is another common risk for bathing injuries.

Enjoy a long relaxing bathing experience by celebrating National Bath Safety Month with a new Rane Walk-in Tub.
